If you’ve been feeling a bit chilly of late thanks to this rude winter awakening, for one day only, you can defrost your frozen cockles with some… chili.
The expat-organized Annual Buenos Aires Chili Cookoff is now in its third year and this charity event – set to benefit SACS, which provides school kit to children in need – conveniently takes place on Father’s Day next Sunday.
The idea is this: around 20 cooks – Argentines and foreigners – bring their finest chili to the table, and compete to take home the glorious Cookoff champion title. In the meantime, a discerning panel of judges (of which I am one, so come by and say hi!) will determine the judges’ favourite – we will be trying every last spicy morsel: it’s in the rules.
Meanwhile, chili fans, the hungry, dads, Herald readers, can snap up 10-peso tickets to purchase a small bowl of chili or seven – it’s your choice – inadvertently casting their votes for the People’s Choice award while giving money to a great cause. Everyone’s a winner.
At the time of writing, there are still a few spaces left for cooks and judges so make haste, and email organizer Frank Almeida at frank.almeida@bachilicookoff.com.ar.
