It’s not every day that a hotel undergoes a USD 46 million refit, but then the Four Seasons Hotel Buenos Aires is certainly no run-of-the-mill establishment. Based in upmarket Recoleta, this five-star accommodation’s pièce de résistance is La Mansion, a stunning belle-époque former family home, whose lavish suites are regularly taken over by rock stars and presidents – though not usually together.
The hotel last underwent a makeover in 2007, however this latest one is very much a facelift, with Argentina’s own heritage very much leading the revamp. A prevalent equine theme greets guests from the drive – five galloping horses fly through the air in a metal sculpture created by local artist Vivienne Duchini.
The idea continues in the capacious lobby, where a front desk encased with local semi-precious stones covers all the blues of the spectrum and as a base to Alejandro Moy’s Caballos Libres painting. This inspiration comes from Buenos Aires’ own residents, says general manager Rebecca Selley. “For porteños, the energy of polo is synonymous with our heart.”
