After receiving a Michelin star for his London-based restaurant Lima earlier this year, Peruvian chef Virgilio Martínez has now snapped up the top prize in Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants 2014 list with Central, the establishment he set up in 2009.

While many observers expected first place to be awarded to Brazil this year, in fact the accolade stayed in Peru – albeit with Virgilio as a new winner.
