Heralded as the best in Latin America in 2013 by the regional 50 Best Restaurant awards and ranked 18th in the world, why would Lima’s Astrid & Gastón change a winning formula? When a 17th-century property as stunning as the Peruvian restaurant’s latest location comes up for grabs, it does.
Led by Peru’s legendary chef Gastón Acurio with Diego Muñoz at the helm on a daily basis, Astrid & Gastón upped sticks from middle-class foodie hub Miraflores earlier this year. The ‘new’ premises – Casa Moreyra, a 17th-century farmhouse designed by a Catalan architect – is located in upmarket San Isidro, a neighbourhood previously known as Lima’s larder (la despensa), thanks to its rich agricultural pickings centuries ago. And now, that moniker has come full circle with Acurio’s relocated offering.
